What is DoorDash?
DoorDash is a food delivery service that is available in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Founded in 2013, the company has captured 12% of the food delivery market in 2018 and experts predict that number to rise to 15% in 2022. The company delivers 800,000 deliveries everyday and is involved with 245,000 merchants. The drivers for DoorDash are called dashers. The delivery concept is very popular because it allows flexibility. Dashers can work as many hours as they like. They can maintain a regular job and dash only on the weekends. They can even use a bike for the deliveries. The drivers must be at least 18 years old. The delivery concept is quite simple. When a customer orders food, a driver with the DoorDash app is notified. The dasher can either accept or reject the delivery and wait for another one. If accepted, they drive to the restaurant, pick up the food, and deliver to the customer. As with all driving, unfortunately, car accidents happen. What happens if a dasher causes an accident injuring you and your family while delivering food for DoorDash?
Injuries Involving Doordash Drivers
As with all accidents, you must follow accident protocol in the processing of your claim. Gather evidence, witness statements, photographs, and any and all information that will assist you in proving your case. DoorDash mandates that all dashers must carry sufficient insurance to cover your damages in an accident. Dashers violate the rules if they do not carry insurance. DoorDash provides up to $1,000,000 for victims involved in an accident. It does not provide insurance coverage for a dasher unless the food is in their possession.
What Information Do I Need After a Doordash Accident
To process the claim, you must get the dasher’s contact information and insurance details. The personal automobile insurance company of the dasher will usually not apply as the dasher was using their vehicle for commercial use (delivery). There must be a denial from the dasher’s personal automobile insurance company. Once confirmed, DoorDash automobile insurance will attach. It is excess coverage. So how do you file a claim?
Making a Claim For an Injury Against Doordash
As personal injury lawyers, we strongly advise you to speak with a car accident lawyer before contacting DoorDash. DoorDash directs all claims of third parties to an email address: (email@example.com). Here you make a claim which starts the process. In addition, you can contact DoorDash support under “report an accident, safety, or legal concern” with your contact information and description of the situation. One accepted, DoorDash asks you to send any evidence, video footage, or photos you have of the incident. Once reviewed, a third-party insurance carrier will review and then reach out to you with a claim number. They will then advise you as to the next steps. Once they confirm the claim, you will deal directly with that insurance company. All negotiations will be with the third-party automobile insurance company rather than DoorDash. If unsuccessful in settling the matter, you will have to file a lawsuit against the dasher and DoorDash. You should never negotiate or accept the offer from this insurance company without a lawyer because they routinely try to settle claims for less than they are worth.
