Roundup and Cancer
Roundup is a herbicide and weed killer manufactured by Monsanto Company (acquired by Bayer in 2018). The product contains glyphosate, which after many years of scientific debate and litigation, has been linked to cancer. Through recent litigation by victims of this product, juries have found that Monsanto marketed the Roundup products as safe and non-toxic and intentionally chose not to warn consumers of the risk of these cancers after prolonged and consistent exposure to the pesticide.
Common Symptoms of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
According to the American Cancer Society, Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma has a range of symptoms depending on the type of lymphoma and its location in the body. In some cases, symptoms may not begin until the cancer grows larger so it may even be asymptomatic at first. Some of the common signs and symptoms of the disease include:
FAQ About Roundup Lawsuits
Our most frequently asked personal injury questions about filing a lawsuit after exposure to Monsanto's Roundup products.
As the litigation regarding Roundup has shown, much of the scientific evidence is clear. Glyphosate, a main ingredient of Roundup products, is linked to cancer and is “probably carcinogenic” according to the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).
If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, endocrine disruption, fertility, or reproductive concerns and have long-term consistent use or exposure to Monsanto’s glyphosate based products, you should contact a lawyer from our team today for a free consultation.
Since pesticides are so widely used for agricultural application – cancer from roundup tends to affect farmers and those involved in agriculture far more often. Aside from farm workers, nursery workers, golf course staff and landscapers are also often affected. If you suspect that you may have been affected negatively from roundup, give our team of lawyers a call today at 419-900-0955.
Since Bayer acquired Monsanto in 2018, this can be a bit complicated. However, in general, when one company acquires another company, it also acquires its legal disputes. So in a way, victims of roundup injuries are suing both companies.
While three major cases have been resolved by a jury verdict, it’s estimated that tens of thousands of lawsuits remain pending in State and Federal Courts across the United States.
There is no roundup class action lawsuit as of September 2021. However, many lawsuits have been consolidated into what is called multi-district litigation (also known as MDL). In one MDL case in California, there are 800 individual cases. In these types of consolidated cases, similar facts and arguments are joined together in a single Federal Court. This streamlines the process, helps to facilitate settlement and limits the cost.

Monsanto Litigation
Edwin Hardeman v. Monsanto
A unanimous jury found that Roundup was a substantial factor in causing the Plaintiff’s non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. A verdict was rendered in the amount of approximately $5 million in compensatory damages and approximately $75 million in punitive damages (the later ultimately reduced by the Judge in the case to $20 million in punitive damages).
Pilliod v. Monsanto
The jurors awarded the Plaintiffs $55 million in compensatory damages and $2 billion in punitive damages. The judge in the case then reduced the amount of the verdict to approximately $86.7 million.
Johnson v. Monsanto
The Plaintiff, a groundskeeper, used Monsanto’s herbicides on school grounds from 2012 until at least 2015 and was diagnosed with cancer in August 2014. Jurors found that the herbicide was a substantial factor in causing the cancer and ordered Monsanto to pay $289 million in damages.
